DJ RICK PARKER

For more than 20 years, house music has been at the heart of Rick Parker’s journey. Based in Manchester, UK, Rick has built a reputation as a Manchester House Music DJ, specialising in uplifting piano house, funky house and vocal house.

Every dancefloor is different. That’s why no two sets are ever the same. Rick reads the room, builds the atmosphere and lets the night develop naturally. Whether it’s a busy Pride weekend, a packed club or an intimate bar, the focus is always on keeping the energy flowing and the dancefloor full.

Where It All Started

Rick’s love of dance music began during his final year at high school after listening to trance and happy hardcore mix tapes. Fascinated by the art of blending records together, he bought his first set of turntables at the age of 17 and spent countless hours teaching himself to mix on vinyl.

His early influences came from the harder side of dance music. However, everything changed in 2002 when he was unexpectedly asked to play a house music set at Bar Beba in Macclesfield. There was just one problem, he didn’t own any house records.

Borrowing a collection from a good friend, Rick played the set anyway. That one booking sparked a passion for house music that has stayed with him ever since.

Building A Name In Manchester

After moving to Manchester, Rick steadily built his house music collection. At the same time, he began promoting himself across the city. His breakthrough came after reaching the final of DJ Idol. That success led to his first major residency at 14 Lloyd Street, a busy 900-capacity venue where he played five-hour sets every Friday and Saturday night.

Those marathon sets taught Rick one of the most valuable skills any club DJ can have. As a result, he learned how to read every crowd with confidence. Rather than relying on prepared playlists, he learned how to build a night from start to finish by reacting to the people in front of him.

Around the same time, Rick set his sights on becoming part of Manchester’s Gay Village. Thanks to the support of Anni Hogan, acclaimed producer, musician and resident DJ at Spirit on Canal Street, Rick was invited to cover guest sets and Bank Holiday appearances. Those early performances introduced him to a whole new audience and helped shape the next chapter of his career within Manchester’s LGBTQ+ nightlife.

The VIA Story

Rick had always wanted to play in Manchester’s Gay Village. After recording a demo mix, he dropped a CD into VIA on Canal Street, hoping someone might give it a listen.

A few weeks later, while out with friends on a Sunday evening, he walked into the venue and immediately recognised the music coming through the speakers. It was his demo mix.

The booked DJ hadn’t turned up, so the management had put Rick’s demo CD on to keep the music flowing. When Rick asked what they thought of it, the answer was simple, they loved it.

Fortunately, Rick lived only a few minutes away in Manchester city centre. So, he offered to nip home, collect his vinyl and headphones, and play the rest of the night live. They agreed.

A short walk later, carrying two heavy record boxes, Rick was behind the decks.

That unexpected Sunday evening became the start of a successful residency at VIA and opened the door to regular appearances throughout Manchester’s Gay Village.

The Eagle Manchester

As the years passed, VIA changed management and the venue’s music policy evolved. Another opportunity soon arrived.

Rick was invited to cover a DJ set at The Eagle Manchester, one of the city’s best-known venues in the heart of Manchester’s Gay Village. His uplifting house music style proved to be the perfect fit. That guest appearance quickly led to a Friday night residency.

Today, Rick continues to appear as a regular guest DJ at The Eagle Manchester. In addition, he performs at clubs, bars and LGBTQ+ events across the UK, bringing his uplifting house music style to every dancefloor.
